Stressful Job Massages
Let's be honest, although all jobs have at least some degree of stress, some are much more stressful than others. The hardest jobs are those in which a whole organization is counting on you to generate revenue. Salespeople are under constant stress; even when they make quota this month, there is always next month to worry about. You worry where sales leads will come from, how they will respond to your pitch, what is your competition doing to undercut your efforts… the list is really endless.
The stress won't go away, so you have to learn how to manage it. Managing stress successfully is often the difference between a 30 year career in sales and a half-year flameout. The irony is, lowered stress levels result in higher sales, because clients can see you sweat, and sweat is death. You have to project a façade of confidence – you know how to help your client succeed, and you have the talent to explain it to them convincingly.
You're sold on stress reduction, but you barely have time to sleep as it is, what with the constant travel, checking into and out of hotels and airports. The logistics alone seem to take up more of your time than actually solving your clients' problems. You need to be able to dynamically schedule some stress relief time on short notice.
One answer is to use a local massage service. These are not sleazy operations, but rather high-class massage therapists who will make house calls on short notice. If you know that you have a few hours in the hotel before that all-important dinner meeting with the new client, you can sit there and worry or you can lie there and receive a massage. Many sales organizations OK these expenses as a necessary component of T&E, so the cost is essentially free.
The way it works is to first research national chains with local branches. Investigate the chains to make sure they are honest and proper. After they pass due diligence, open a national account with one. They will send you a member's card for use throughout the country. Then, call the 800 number when you know you'll have a two-hour break in your day, and set up a meeting at your hotel. A trained specialist will treat you to a calming, refreshing massage, and you'll be ready to take on the world.
